The bullocks took pride of place in Carrigallen Mart on Thursday, with over 180 entries reaching a near-full clearance.
The yard of mostly Charolais and Limousin crossbreds met a strong trade, with prices reaching as high as €1,680 for a 690kg bullock (€2.43/kg).
However, it was the younger stock which achieved the highest price per kilo. Topping the list was a 425kg Limousin steer who hit the market at €2.66/kg (€1,130).
Speaking after the sale, mart manager Helen Kells said: “Trade was very good, which meant we had a near 100% clearance. There was a variety of [farmers] bidding with good interest in feeding bullocks.”
