There was a roaring trade for cows in Bandon Mart on Monday. Fleshed Friesians were comfortably making €300 and beyond with their weight, with a good number making in excess of €400 over their weight.
Feeder cows were selling in the main for between €100 and €200 with their weight, depending on condition, and young cows were also a good sell. Well-fed suckler cows made between €500 and €855 over the €/kg. Overall, cows made from €90 to €675 over their weight.
This cow weighed 885kg and made €1,740, €1.97/kg.

This cow weighed 900kg and made €1,420, €1.58/kg.
Beef cows
This cow weighed 770kg and made €1,380, €1.79/kg.
Forward store bullocks were the best sellers in the bullock ring, with €2.05/kg to €2.22/kg available for Angus and Herefords – continentals squeezed a few cent extra. Spring 2016 bullocks are a lesser trade than they were a few weeks ago. However, there still was an appetite for Herefords, while plainer Friesians were a tougher sell.
Friesians made between €200 and €520 with their weight and traditional beef-crosses sold for between €350 and €650 over the €/kg. Continental bullocks made up to €750 with their weight.
These bullocks were born in March 2015, weighed 535kg and made €1,110, €2.08/kg.

2015-born Forward stores
These bullocks were born in April 2015, weighed 552kg and made €1,250, €2.27/kg.
2016-born stores
Trade in the heifer sale was similar to that of the bullocks, with forward heifers more sought-after. Heifers made from €300 to €650 over the €/kg.
These heifers born in March 2015 weighed 503kg and made €1,040, €2.07/kg.

Calves
Calf numbers continue to fall back, with just over 900 on offer this week. Friesian bull calves made from €80 to €160, with older bull calves selling for up to €320. Friesian heifers made between €180 and €290.
Beef-crosses from crossbred dairy herds made similar money to Friesian bulls. Hereford- and Angus-cross bull calves sold for between €200 and €390, with heifers of these breeds making from €160 to €290. Continental heifers sold from €250 to €360 and continental bulls made from €300 to €480.
