Camera at the Mart visited the weekly cattle sale at Clogher on Saturday where 1,080 animals went under the hammer.
Commenting on the trade, mart manager Harrison Boyd said: “Right across all sale rings, buyers were extremely eager for stock and this resulted in a flying trade for all types of stock.
“The rise in beef prices is having a positive effect on store cattle prices, with buyers around the ring competing hard against online bidders”.
Heavy fleshed cattle were a super trade, with bullocks selling to a top price of £1,735 for an 890kg Charolais, with a 720kg Limousin making £1,570, matched again by another Limousin weighing 810kg.
Forward bullocks suited to a short finishing period typically sold from 203p/kg to 233p/kg, with standout lots being a 630kg Charolais that sold for £1,470, while a 680kg Charolais made £1,490.
Angus bullocks sold to £1,480 for a 650kg animal, while a 720kg Angus made £1,410.
Demand for mid-weight grazing stores was sharp. A 420kg Angus bullock made £1,090 and a 460kg Charolais made £1,110, with similar lots selling upwards from the £1,000 mark.
Heifers
Heifers sold to £1,480 for a 640kg Limousin animal and again for a 650kg Charolais, while £1,470 was paid for a 640kg Charolais.
Forward heifers sold from 210p/kg to 238p/kg for a 570kg Charolais which made £1,360.
Heifers under 500kg were a solid trade with a big run of cattle selling from 220p to 242p/kg for a 490kg Charolais which made £1,180, while a Limousin at the same weight made £1,100.
Cows
Fat cows sold from a base of 180p/kg for heavy fleshed lots, with feeding cows making 130p/kg to 180p/kg depending on quality.
Friesian cows sold from 100p to 132p/kg for fleshed types.
Calves
In the calf ring, buying competition was fierce and prices peaked at £765 for a Limousin bull just weaned off milk, followed by two more Limousin bulls at £700 and £660.
A Charolais bull calf under six weeks old sold to £615 with £500 paid for a Hereford bull calf of similar age.
Heifer calves sold to £550 for a Limousin. Hereford calves made £525 and Shorthorns sold to £400.
