You know it’s a good sale when you here you hear “there’s some serious cattle here” from many of the farmers who were walking through the pens. Factory agents and feeders were very active throughout the sale.
Most bullocks on offer were forward stores with many born in spring 2015, so there was plenty size on offer.
Continentals dominated the numbers and R and U grading stock made between €2.20/kg and €2.60/kg for the top-end animals. Continental and traditional beef crosses from the dairy herd sold from €1.80/kg up to €2.16/kg.

Heifers
In the heifer sale, those with R to U grade potential sold from €2.20/kg to €2.40/kg, with the tops of the continentals making up to €2.50/kg. Angus and Hereford cross heifers were making from €1.80 to €1.95/kg.

Cows
Heavy continental cows were the stand-outs in a sale which had more than 200 lots on offer. There was a very strong demand for cull suckler cows, with many selling for between €400 and €1,000 with their weight.
Well-fleshed cows made from €1.80/kg, with younger cows selling for up to €2.20/kg. There was also a steady trade for dairy cows, with fleshed cows making up to €300 with their weight. Those in poorer condition were back to €120 under the euro per kilo.
