Kathy shines a light at home
Go Light Your World is the latest single from Kathy Durkin. The Cavan native, who had plenty of success with songs such Midnight to Moonlight and The Clock in The Tower in the early 1990s, came across the song while performing at a special event in New York back in November 2016.
Fr Francis Pizzarelli, CEO of Hope House Ministries in Long Island, explains the background to the song.
“More than 800 people were gathered to support Hope House Ministries, an agency that reaches out to young people and families at risk. The heart of our work is Hope Academy, a long-term residential treatment community for addictions.
“At our concert that November a group of young men who live in our recovery community performed their anthem. Some weeks later they made their debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, ending with a sustained standing ovation.
“Kathy Durkin was in the audience at the fundraiser in November. She was so moved by the lyrics and those young men singing with such passion that she decided to record it to support efforts to reach out to those in Ireland who are struggling with suicide, serious addiction and homelessness, infectious social issues that paralyse people everywhere.”
Go Light Your World, written by Kathy Trocalli, was recorded by Kathy in Jonathan Owens’ Studios in Granard.
Bachelors in Trouble
The Bachelors in Trouble will host the official launch of their new DVD, Magical Pension Days, in Crotty’s of Leamybrien, on Saturday 8 December, with dancing getting underway at 9.30pm.
This marks their 29th year of producing films and the latest release was much in demand at the National Ploughing in Tullamore back in September. It features all the regular cast, as well as a few new additions, and is very much along the lines that followers of the Bachelors have come to expect from the Waterford folk.
The guests on the night include TR Dallas, John O’Shea from WLR and Paddy Joe Ryan, chair of Waterford GAA Board.
Admission is €12 and the proceeds will go to Kilrossanty and Fews Church Building Fund and the Irish Kidney Association. Further details about the launch night and the new DVD can be had by calling Tony Coffey on 087-9448828.
Longford mourns Danny
Danny McGee, a 21-year-old from Drumlish in Co Longford, who died tragically in Queens, New York, after being felled by a single-punch assault, was the son of Don and Colleen McGee.
Don is well known in country music circles, having played with the Mick Flavin Band for several years and also with the Busy Fingers Band based in Longford. The hearts of all in the community went out to the McGee family as hundreds of people called to the family home and packed St Mary’s Church, Drumlish, to overflowing for the funeral mass last Thursday.
Danny is deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents, Don and Colleen, his brother, Brian, sister, Eva, the family circle and a large circle of friends.
