Paddy O’Brien will host his second weekend in the annual get-together series in White’s Hotel, Wexford, from Friday, 28 February, to Sunday, 2 March. Joining Paddy and his band are Jimmy Buckley, Shawn Loughrey, Stephen Smyth, Declan Nerney, Teresa and The Stars, Trudi Lalor and Pat Tobin.
The death took place last week of Jimmy Kelly, Portarlington, and formerly of The Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin. Jimmy was associated with the music business for decades. He and his family developed The Hazel Hotel into one of the leading venues in the Midlands and all of the top names in country music played the venue down through the years. We extend condolences to his family and friends.
Country singer Patsy McCaul has retired as a school bus driver in the Castlerea area of Co Roscommon. Patsy was honoured by friends, colleagues and the company at a recent ceremony. The Ballintubber man has recorded some popular country songs over the years and still performs on the regional circuit with his band, Blue Country.
Al Grant is enjoying great success with his current tour, Welcome To My World – The Songs and Story of Jim Reeves. The show was accorded a standing ovation on its debut night in Strabane. So popular is the show that promoter Tom Kelly is already planning a second tour.
Boots is the third single from Bernie Heaney, Newbridge. Her debut album is due out in April.
