Hugh and Maria top the million
Donegal father and daughter duo, Hugh P and Maria Doherty, reached a major milestone in recent days. Their recording of the old country standard, I Heard The Bluebird Sing, surpassed one million views on YouTube. This represents a superb achievement for the Inishowen duo, who perform mainly on the regional circuit in the North West. Maria also hosts a Sunday afternoon gospel show on the Keep It Country channel on Sky 389.
Hugh P and Maria are in regular demand, especially for church music, but also perform for the social dancing and lounge scene. They have released two albums in recent years, A Living Prayer (a gospel album) and A Couple More Years.
Prior to concentrating on the music scene, Hugh was well known to the farming fraternity, as he was in the haulage business and delivered lime to many farmers around Donegal. The video for I Heard The Bluebird Sing was shot on location in Co Donegal by Seamus O’Donnell, who does a lot of work for the Keep It Country channel. The video has also received over 300 comments singing the praises of the recording by Hugh and Maria, and the camera work of Seamus.
“We are absolutely delighted to see the views cross the million threshold,” says Hugh. “It had been closing in on it for a while. We never expected the video to attract such interest the day we recorded it with Seamus. We are so grateful to everyone who has checked it out and to the many people who have commented so favourably since it was posted on YouTube.”
