The Patrick O’Sullivan Dancing Weekend will be spread over four days and nights from 23-26 October at the Armagh City Hotel. This is his second year to host the venture in Armagh.
“All the people who came last year were delighted with how well things went. We got a great welcome and the vast majority are coming back with us again,” says Patrick.
“We will have coaches starting off in Cork, one going via Kerry and Limerick, and another through Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow and the Midlands. Many people will make their own way there too. We are getting inquiries from many parts of the country, which is brilliant.
“The north has so much to offer. We are also organising day trips to Belfast and Derry as well as various places in Armagh. We have a great line-up of entertainers to keep dancers happy. Armagh, here we come.”
Among the acts joining Patrick for the celebrations in Armagh are Hugo Duncan, Limelight, Derek Burke (of Crystal Swing), Tony Kerr, Boxcar Brian, Matt Leavy, Trudi Lalor, Thomas Maguire and Fhiona Ennis, Carmel McLoughlin, Teddy Crowley, Joe Cooke and Country Harmony. His son, Conor O’Sullivan (13), who released his own solo album last year, is also on the bill while Sean Wallace will compere much of the festivities over the weekend. There will also be late-night singalongs.
Patrick is busy working on a new album which is being produced by Tony Kirby in his studios in Ballinlough, Co Cork. A single from the album, So Much Music And So Little Time, composed by Patrick O’Sullivan and Gay Brazel, is proving popular on many of the regional and internet stations.
“I enjoy recording and writing songs when I get time. It is nice to collaborate with other writers as we can all draw inspiration from each other.”
Patrick started his career in show business with a local four-piece band called The Wanderers in 1988. He later went solo in the 1990s where he played the pub scene, which was a major outlet in those times. Since then, he has established a solid following, especially throughout the Munster region. Winning Glór Tíre in 2009 saw him expand further afield.
Apart from a hectic schedule on the dancing and regional circuit, Patrick is thrilled to be chosen as the opening act for Margo’s concert in the INEC Killarney on 26 August, and he will also provide the music for dancing.
