Moll – 2 May: Moll is a hilarious and highly successful comedy about life in an Irish country presbytery. Written by the legendary John B Keane, Moll tells the story about a presbytery and their new housekeeper. The situation is likened to when ‘a country that gets a change of government, or like a family that gets a new stepmother’. Moll Kettle would work for no less than a canon for, in her own words, “’tis hard to come back to the plain black and white when one is used to the purple”. Directed by Rose O’Neill, Moll plays in the Íontas Theatre, Castleblayney on 2 March for three nights with all proceeds going to the Castleblayney Cancer Society. For more information and tickets, see www.iontascastleblayney.ie.
Tolkien – 3 May: Tolkien explores the formative years of John Ronald Reuel (JRR) Tolkien, a famous English writer, poet, philologist and academic, who is best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. As an orphan as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear their “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels, which have produced some of the most iconic movies of all time. Tolkien is set to be released in Irish cinemas on 3 May.
