Infrastructure village
A huge amount of work has been put into the infrastructure village over the past number of months. Demonstration roadways and fences have been erected including water systems. Different levels of fencing costs are included to suit different budgets and advisors will be on hand to give guided tours around the village.
Live demos
Each village at BEEF 2018 has a live demonstration element to it from livestock demos to feed demos. These demos will take place in each village during the day and give farmers the chance to interact with Teagasc specialists and researchers.
Livestock demo
This year the Irish Farmers Journal, Teagasc and ICBF will partner for livestock demos which will take place at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. These live demos will feature both Derrypatrick and Maternal herd cows/heifers and calves and the focus will be on choosing replacement heifers and successful two-year-old calving.
Kevin Dundon
Well-known chef Kevin Dundon will be at this year’s event participating in live cooking demos during the day demonstrating different ways of cooking and preparing Irish beef.
Quad Demonstration
Health and safety is a central part of every business and the Health and Safety village has been expanded this year to include a quad bike demonstration on the safe use of farm quads.
Dairy calf to beef
Teagasc has recently commenced a new trial looking at dairy calf to beef systems. This has involved the purchase of 120 dairy x calves from different sires. These calves will be on display on the day and farmers can find out all about the new systems trial.
