There was a large crowd in Portmore EC for the 34th final of the Half Bred Horse Breeders Society’s three-year-old loose jumping championship.
Lanaken gold medal winner Ger O’Neill from Kilkenny kindly judged the event last Wednesday at the Aghalee venue.
O’Neill, who rode Killossery Kaiden (ISH) to victory in Belgium in the six-year-old final last September, had the tough task of judging the 30 horses who came through the qualifiers to the final.
The winner was Brendan McSorley with his Beach Ball filly by a Classic Vision mare and only a narrow margin separated those who made it into the top 10 in the final.
The Half Bred Horse Breeders Society Ltd, a non profit-making organisation, ploughs back any profits made into the breeding industry.
Tribute was paid to Blue Grass Horse Feeds for their sponsorship support, while the winner of the TRI Equestrian prize for best turnout went to Wallace Birch and Gwen Scott’s Last Mans Dream.
Tribute was also paid to Parklands Veterinary Practice, Alan Robertson and Thompson Feeds, commentator Raymond Brady and photographer John Gibson of Sporting Images NI.
The society is also offering the opportunity to acquire a nomination for the top northern-bred stallion Beach Ball (by OBOS Quality 004), kindly donated by Brendan McSorley. It will be auctioned on Facebook. Further details can be obtained from Steven 077-106 31316 or Carole 078-873 89606. This auction will close on 23 December.
