Doon Social Farm in East Limerick will host a public open day on Friday 13 May from 11am-2pm.
This social enterprise set up by Ballyhoura Rural Services is located on a beautiful 33-acre farm encompassing the former Sisters of Mercy convent and school and aims to tackle rural isolation.
The day will include tours of the farm and social farm experiences, with fun presentations showing visitors how to grow their own salad boxes, plant food, build garden beds and garden furniture, work with pigs, chickens and donkeys and a class on bee-keeping.
There will also be talks on biodiversity, a cookery demo and an introduction to the on-site training programme in horticulture. Ballyhoura Development will also advise on how to set up and scale a social enterprise.
The open day is ideal for local community groups, charities, youth groups, schools, disability services and care groups. Tea and coffee will be provided, there is on-site parking, and admission is free. The farm is located at Main St, Doon, Co Limerick, V94 12TO.
