In front of over 200 high-ranking guests and the staff of Grimme China, Franz, Christine and Christoph Grimme opened the new state-of-the-art 12,500m² plant in Tianjin (130km southeast of Beijing). The new office building with 1,400m² was also handed over on the 3.5ha site. With over €13m spent, it is one of the largest single-investments abroad in the company's 150-year history.
Initially, the production focus will be on machines for planting, cultivating, harvesting and storage of potatoes that have been specially developed for the Chinese market.
The family company from Damme, Germany has been active in the "country of the rising sun" for over 20 years. With over five million hectares of potatoes, China is the world's largest producer and has undergone a rapid development in recent years. The Chinese government has declared potatoes to be the foremost important food and wants to expand potato cultivation massively.
