Tony O’Mahony Agri Plant & Haulage from Cripple Hill, Bandon, Co Cork, has started a new slurry agitation service for overground slurry towers and lagoons.
Michael O’Mahony says that some of their customers were having issues agitating slurry in overground tanks and lagoons.
After carrying out some research on the internet, they came across propeller agitators that can be driven hydraulically on an excavator.
Michael says to work these hydraulically driven propellers, the excavator must have a flow rate of at least 100PSP.
“The propeller is picked up with the pallet forks of the digger and is also chained on securely so that it cannot come away,” explained Michael.
When they are agitating slurry in a tower, one man stands in the tower platform to oversee work inside the tower and directs the digger driver via radio.
The O’Mahony setup can clear a 22ft high tank. Michael says so far it is working very well and is a very good solution for a common problem on farms.
