In celebration of this event, we published a book “Macra na Feirme 1944-2019 A History in Pictures” that documents the history, through pictures, of the organisation from its creation to today. The book features photos throughout the decades of the many areas wherein Macra has been engaged from the political side to the social side.
The book was edited and compiled by former Macra Public Relations Officer, Joe Coffey, who collected photos from members past and present to tell Macra’s story visually through the eyes of members.
A year-long appeal for photos from members past and present and a deep trawl through the Macra na Feirme archive and national press archives has resulted in this must-have history of Macra na Feirme. It chronicles through photos the foundation of the organisation in post-WWII Ireland through to Ireland’s entry into the EEC in 1973 and into the present day.
The book is exciting for the organisation and indeed more exciting to all members, friends and families. It is a must have publication for anyone connected to Macra na Feirme, or with a passion for rural Ireland, agriculture and rural life.
The book was officially launched at the National Ploughing Championships earlier this year and is currently available for purchase in all good bookstores or through our website at macra.ie/shop
