Dairy cows sold to a top price of 3,100 guineas at the full herd dispersal sale of Aghavilly Holsteins on Wednesday 27 March for the McCarragher family, Newtownhamilton.
The sale was conducted on farm by auctioneers RA Noble and Norton and Brooksbank, with 140 robot-trained cows going under the hammer along with eight springing heifers, 40 maiden animals and 40 heifer calves.
Topping the trade was the second-lactation cow Aghavilly Fynn Bretta P, a November 2020-born daughter of Bomaz Fynn and currently yielding 68 litres daily, having calved on 20 February.
Second highest price at 3,050gn was Aghavilly Tropic Silvy P, an August 2020-born daughter of Peak Tropic. Starting her second lactation on 26 January, she is yielding 65 litres daily. Next up at 2,800gn was Aghavilly Benz Betsy, a July 2020-born daughter of SSI Fracnhise Benz with 12 generations of VG and EX-graded animals in her maternal bloodline.
Betsy is yielding 57 litres daily, despite her second lactation starting back in August 2023. She is due to calve again on 30 July with a heifer to Drouner K & L Chase.
The hammer fell at 2,650gn for Aghavilly Domino P Princess Red, a June 2020-born daughter of the homebred Aghavilly Domino P Red.
Yielding 50 litres daily, Princess Red calved on 16 January and was bred to AI on 20 February using Mystique Animation.
Two animals topped 2,550gn, starting with Aghavilly Batman Roxanne, an April 2020-born daughter of Sandy Valley 1 Batman.
Now in her third lactation and yielding 45 litres daily, Roxanne is scanned back in-calf to Winstar Melby P with a heifer.
That was matched by Fernycleugh Rapid Sara, a June 2020-born daughter of St Gen R Rapid that calved on 1 January 2024 and currently yielding 57 litres daily.
