There was a good entry of store cattle at Armoy Mart this week. A total of 380 cattle were presented for sale, an increase on previous weeks as weather pushes cattle off the land and into the market.

Mart manager Danny McAlister commented on the strong demand for cattle with plenty of buyers on hand for various types of stock.

Prices topped £1,315 for a Charolais bullock. Heavy-fleshed forward stores sold around the £2/kg mark, with exceptional lots selling to £2.10/kg.

Cattle weighing 450kg to 500kg were met with prices of £2.15 to £2.20/kg for good-quality continental animals. Plainer lots sold from £1.50 to £1.80/kg and were a steady trade.

There was a good entry of Angus stores weighing 450kg to 500kg, which sold from £2.10 to £2.20/kg, with the majority of animals surpassing the £1,000/head mark. Good-quality Friesian cattle sold from £1.40 to £1.60/kg.
