Elsa first claimed the commercial championship, then secured the G.V.M €2,500 All-Ireland before finally being tapped forward as the overall beef champion of the show. Sired by Limousin bull Dartagnan and out of a purebred Belgian Blue cow, the year-and-half-old has already picked up a number of top accolades this year.
Reserve overall championship went to the Limousin champion Drummin J-Lo from John McInerney, Newmarket-On-Fergus. This January 2015 heifer is no stranger to success, having claimed the overall All-Ireland suckler type heifer in Claremorris three weeks ago as well as a number of other championships and interbreeds along the way. The sire behind this one was Wilodge Vantastic.
Standing reserve in the Limousin ring was Donal Moloney, Ardnachrusha with Ardnachrusha Kylie.
This young Sympa heifer has also picked up a number of top spots throughout the summer including reserve interbreed at Bonniconlon.
Charolais and Angus
In the Charolais ring, Martin Ryan and family were again out on top, this time with Goldstar Jamaique. Imported from France as a calf, the Texan Gie two-year-old daughter had previously been placed reserve heifer champion at the calf show last year.
In reserve position was last weekend’s reserve male champion at Tullamore Clenagh Lyle. Sired by Domina and out of a Pirate cow, this one was brought out by Michael Quinn, Newmarket-on-Fergus.
Tubridmore Rosebud secured the Angus championship for Denis Twomey, Causeway, Co Kerry. Sired by Peter Pershore and out of successful show cow Luddenmore Rosa Eric, the now three-year-old caught the eye of judge Anthony Dockery.
In reserve spot was Matthew Goulding with his January calf Goulding Proud Boy. This Oakchurch Dirk-sired bull last week claimed reserve overall champion in the Angus ring at Tullamore.
Belgian Blue and Simmental
Billy Dunne was on form in the Belgian Blue ring with his young heifer Erril Invincible. The Empire daughter has collected a number of red rosettes and championships already this year for the Laois man.
David Pearson’s Kubritus De Bray sired Boherard Jelly Tot claimed the reserve title, fresh from her all-Ireland win at Tullamore the August bank holiday.
Anatrim Bodybuilder daughter Fearna Faith was tapped forward by judge Tom Cox as champion in the Simmental ring. Exhibited by Martin Mooney, Birr, Co Offaly the two-year-old is no stranger to success, having claimed a number of championships including the All-Ireland senior heifer at Tullamore this year.
Seamus Aherne took up the reserve spot with his autumn-born Towerhill Godiva. Sired by Curraheen Dickens and out of a Hillcrest Jerome daughter, the stylish heifer also claimed first at Athlone show earlier in the year.
