The UK Hereford Cattle Society held its horned national show in Tenbury over the weekend with Irish-bred Kye Holly 818 emerging as supreme female champion.
The stylish January 2018-born heifer was bred by Padraig and Catherine McGrath, Elphin, Co Roscommon. No stranger to the show ring, Holly enjoyed many successful days with the McGrath family, in particular when she was tapped out as overall female champion at the national calf show last November.
This is where the heifer was first seen by Shorthorn breeder Tommy Staunton who managed to strike a deal to purchase her before she was even tapped out as champion.
Having stayed at Staunton’s farm in Kinvara for a number of months, Holly again found herself back on the show scene and being paraded at Northern Ireland’s premier show, Balmoral, which took place in May.
The heifer can’t seem to go anywhere without attracting attention
Here, the Free Town Hotspur daughter continued her winning ways to take the breed’s junior championship.
The heifer can’t seem to go anywhere without attracting attention and so another interested party wished to buy her off Staunton. The Galway man parted ways with Holly, with Steven O’Kane buying the heifer for Philip Martindale, Bolton. Here she went from strength to strength and last weekend made herself a champion in three different countries. On her way to taking the supreme female championship at the society’s national finals, Holly 818 also picked up a red ticket in her class and the intermediate heifer championship.
