Comment: IFA national pigs committee chair Pat O’Flaherty said that it was really positive to see a recovery in EU pig prices this week, with more to come according to sources. Denmark led with an increase of 3c/kg, Germany +2/kg and Belgium and Holland +1/kg. However, the Germans (ISN) are this week accusing the Danes of a corporate strategy to reduce German pig prices (and ultimately EU prices), blaming Danish Crown for the 20c/kg price drop in Germany last month, while encouraging suppliers to ‘punish’ them in what is now a tight supply market. UK analysts have claimed that the wholesale price of pork has increased by 18% on the back of Brexit with processed products set to follow.
