I see Aurivo is on the hunt for two key positions – a general manager for its marts division, and a head honcho for Balla Mart.

The introduction of online bidding to the western powerhouse is likely to be the last major milestone overseen by current general manager and Aurivo marts stalwart Martin Walsh. Having started working with Aurivo in 1975, Walsh was at the helm for numerous changes to animal identification and movements, huge market fluctuations, a currency change and both BSE and foot-and-mouth scares.

He became general manager in 1989 and was appointed to the executive team in 2004. The new mart manager in Balla will manage Aurivo’s flagship mart and be responsible for throughput of up to 50,000 cattle annually.

Meanwhile, I see Bord Bia is on a recruitment drive for a sector manager – meat and livestock. I’m told the current sector manager Declan Fennell is moving into handling major global marketing strategies.

The Dublin-based role will focus primarily on sheepmeat, including developing Bord Bia’s strategy for sheepmeat and livestock, updating sector overviews and providing market insight.

With a starting salary of €66,928, I think it could be high time The Dealer dusts the cobwebs off my CV.
