The Dealer was surprised to read about plans by John Kavanagh, coach to The Notorious Conor McGregor, for his career after mixed martial arts. "I want to start farming," the Dubliner told the Sunday Business Post – and this time, this is not an April fool's.
The 40-year-old gym owner said he had just bought "a biggish house with a lot of land" in the Walkinstown area of Dublin.
Despite easy access to urban utilities, Kavanagh's business plan seems to focus very much on self-sufficiency, with a wind turbine and a water well feeding into vegetable and berry growing as well as chicken rearing. "I was a chicken farmer at one point, believe it or not," Kavanagh told the paper.
The Dealer wishes him the best of luck in getting planning permission for a wind turbine and a poultry house past south Dublin city residents.
