Always one to keep on top of my fitness, I have been bitten by the growing trend of taking the odd protein drink to help build strength and aid recovery.

I see that the Tralee-based Lee Strand Co-op, with just 70 producers who deliver 27m litres, has recently launched a protein milk with 25g of protein, following Glanbia and Aurivo into this space.

However, I was surprised after seeing an advert which compared its product to that of Glanbia’s Mooju protein milk, FrieslandCampina’s Yazoo protein milk and a bottle of Lucozade Sport.

According to Lee Strand, Mooju and Yazoo have 11 and 12 teaspoons of sugar respectively, compared with Lucozade Sport, which only has five. The Lee Strand protein milk proudly boasts that it has no added sugar. There is a difference to be made between sugar and added sugar but that wasn’t clear on the advert.
