Self-igniting manure is reported to have started a fire in the northeast of Spain, which now covers 6,000ha, according to the Catalonian government.
The intense heatwave sweeping across Europe has brought the temperature up to 44°C in the Riberra de Ebro region where the fire is, prompting flammable material such as manure to ignite.
Evacuations
People have been evacuated from the area and the battle continues to extinguish the fire, which lasted through the night.
The Catalonia government said that the fire is stabilised now and that there are no powerful active fronts.
They are using tractors and water lines to help put out the fire in the Llardecans area where there are crops.
Some 350 fire crew, 12 fire engines and a number of vehicles with large water tanks were at the scene, the local fire brigade said.
There were also seven aircraft and two hydroplanes deployed.
