A Garda spokesman has said a fixed-charge penalty notice and penalty points will be issued to the driver of the tractor. However, the owner will also receive a court summons. Three of the four tyres on the trailer were excessively worn, with wire visible on some of the tyres.

It is important that both owners and drivers understand they are both responsible to ensure their machinery is road legal.
