Class of 2020 agricultural science students at University College Dublin (UCD) have been invited to a virtual conferring ceremony, replacing the conventional in-person event.
UCD president Andrew Deeks has invited the students to attend the virtual conferring which will be broadcast live on 31 August.
A statement from UCD highlighted that current restrictions around indoor gatherings in accordance with Government and public health advice has meant it will not be possible to confer degrees in person this August and September.
The online events will replace the annual physical ceremonies in O’Reilly Hall and will be broadcast live at the times the physical ceremonies would have taken place.
The degree is to be conferred to students in absentia at this time. Physical degree parchments will be mailed out to the recipients on the return of the conferral unit staff to their office.
Campus closure
From 23 March, the university adopted an at-distance teaching and learning model for all undergraduate and taught masters’ students. Agricultural science students completed their final lectures and examinations from remote locations.
