The Irish Farmers Journal are holding a pre-harvest farm walk this morning. The event takes place on the farm of Martin Hoste near Kilbride in Co Meath and is part of our From the Tramlines series.
The theme of the farm walk is "Getting ready for harvest 2019" and speakers will focus on topics that are important for this coming harvest.
This is event will commence at 10am and conclude around 1pm and is completely free to attend.

Correct combine set up is a key priority before the harvest.
The morning consists of a series of talks and practical demonstrations:
Rory Deverell of FC Stone will bring us an update of the global grain market situation. Tom Kelly will discuss the Irish Grain Assurance Scheme (IGAS). Gordon Rennick from the Department of Agriculture will have a discussion on pesticides. Liz Glynn and Willie Corrigan will represent Corteva who are our partners in the From the Tramlines programme. Mark Wilson from Claas will go through the basics of machine set-up on a Claas Lexion 750 hybrid machine and a Claas Lexion 660 straw walker machine.Joe McDonagh of the Road Safety Authority will discuss the current agricultural trailer regulations such as gross weights, axle numbers, braking systems, hitching points etc.Dermot Forrestal of Teagasc, Oak Park will provide advice on tractor and combine wheel options in order to minimise compaction at harvest time.Refreshments will be served after the event.

The event takes place on the farm of Martin and Cepta Hoste. The event will be signposted along the main roads leading to the farm.
