Following on from our panel of farmers at Tillage Day, we will chat to a panel of agronomists to try to solve some of the challenges which farmers faced this year, as well as discussing what they saw in the fields this year that was positive and also what needs to be addressed.
Brian Reilly, Drummonds
Brian is an experienced agronomist based in the northeast with Drummonds. He manages the Drummonds trial site, which the company uses to test different varieties and management practices to make sure agronomists are giving advice that is appropriate to the region they are growing crops in.
Brian places a lot of value on nutrition and the timing of different products.
Ciarán Collins, Teagasc
Ciarán Collins is a Teagasc tillage specialist based in Co Cork, covering the south of the country.
He is a very practical adviser who knows the costs of production inside out.
Beans have been increasing in area in recent years and Ciarán has been carrying out research into the best management of the crop.
He will discuss the high septoria pressure on winter wheat in his region, as well as BYDV and the success of spring barley in 2024.
John Martin, Centenary Co-op
John brings a wealth of experience to the table. The agronomist is based in Co Tipperary.
From a co-op, John will talk about the practicalities of livestock and tillage farmers working together.
He will also tell us about the co-op’s value-added product Tipperary Fresh Milk, which is from animals which are fed GMO-free feed.
