As always there will be discussions, demonstrations, interviews and panels on the Irish Farmers Journal Stand at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.
There are some hard-hitting tillage guests in the line-up who play a big part in buying Irish grain, research and minding our soils. The schedule for “In the Tillage Fields” is outlined below.
Tuesday 17 September, 2-2.30pm
In the Tillage Fields with James Flahavan, director of Flahavan's.
We'll talk about the successful business of Flahavan's from porridge to flapjacks. We’ll hear about the company’s focus on Irish grain and local growers, a push to organics and the brand’s success around the World.
Wednesday 18 September, 11.30am-12pm
In the Tillage Fields with John Spink, Teagasc Head of Crops, Environment and Land Use.
We'll chat about environmentally friendly Irish tillage and how its carbon footprint is and will be measured in the future. We’ll discuss how this might impact tillage farms and incomes.
Thursday 19 September, 3.30-4pm
In the Tillage Fields with John O'Loughlin, technical manager at Grassland Agro.
We’ll talk cover crops, crop nutrition and all things soil health. Autumn is the ideal time to test your soil, carry out soil assessments and make a nutrient management plan to get the most from your soil.
We’ll have cover crops and different Irish products on display on the stand and look forward to meeting readers over the course of the National Ploughing Championships from 17-19 September in Ratheniska, Co Laois.
