The closing date to apply for a scholarship to work on a farm in the US is almost here.
The Irish Tillage and Land Use Society (ITLUS) scholarship, in conjunction with the Ulster Arable Society, is supported by the Irish Farmers Journal.
The scholarship will see the winner, who must be studying agriculture, travel to Kevin and Michelle Rosenbohm’s farm in northwest Missouri in the USA from 1 September to 1 December 2025.
On the farm, the recipient of the scholarship will get practical experience in the production, husbandry and marketing of maize and soybeans, as well as in the processing of soybean seed.
Diverse experience
The Rosenbohms will ensure that the intern will get a diverse work experience and have an enjoyable stay in the US.
The intern will work along with management, family and other employees and must be prepared to work long hours in busy periods.
There will also be opportunities to travel to local agricultural events during the stay.
The application form is available on the ITLUS website and must be submitted by 5pm on 14 February. Interviews will take place in the coming weeks.
The successful candidate must be at least 20 years old on 1 January 2025, be resident on the island of Ireland, be studying agriculture, have a full, clean driving licence and have a knowledge of working modern machinery.
The Irish Farmers Journal will also provide some updates from the candidate in print or podcast form from their visit.
