Quality cattle were rewarded in what was a very good sale. There were 100 heifers and 80 bullocks and weanling bulls on offer in total. Suckler bred cattle performed well across the board while the trade for crosses out of the dairy herd were a few cent/kilo behind. Overage stock or stock that were behind in terms of weight for age were a tougher sell. This however is something within the sellers control.
Like last Friday the bullock sale saw most of animals selling in excess of €2.20/kg. Continental crosses from the dairy herd were closer to €2/kg, with prices for cattle likely to be a little more challenging to finish in spec further back .
