Strong demand for forward types at Markethill mart
Last Saturday’s sale at Markethill Mart saw another seasonally strong entry of 700 store cattle on offer. In the bullock ring, there was 270 store bullocks which met with firm demand.
The first to go through ring two at the new Markethill Mart was owned by Brian Garvey from Newry and made £190.

Last Saturday’s sale at Markethill Mart saw another seasonally strong entry of 700 store cattle on offer. In the bullock ring, there was 270 store bullocks which met with firm demand. Prices ranged mainly from £1.95/kg to £2.19/kg for forward types, with middle-weight bullocks selling mainly from £2.00/kg to £2.22/kg. There was a good entry of Friesians on the day also which sold mainly from £1.30/kg to £1.51/kg.
Demand for heifers was said to be quite strong, similar to recent weeks. There was 230 on offer. The tops on the day was a 55okg heifer which sold for £2.16/kg. The main demand saw prices range from £1.88/kg to £2.05/kg. Middle-weights sold mainly from £1.95/kg to £2.25/kg, with second-quality heifers selling from £1.70/kg to £1.80/kg. Weanlings were a firm trade and bulls sold mainly from £2.10/kg to £2.22/kg, with heifers selling mainly from £2.00/kg to £2.32/kg. A large entry of suckler cows made from £1,100 to £1,560.
