Over €26,000 has been raised for the Offaly School of Special Education (OSSE) at a charity livestock auction at Tullamore Mart.
The funds raised will directly benefit the 42 students attending OSSE, which serves children from across Offaly.
The event, which took place in March, raised €19,124 from the sale of calves, with an additional €7,556.73 generated through donations and the bucket collection during the evening.
A spokesperson for the OSSE school said that they are overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the farming community.
“A huge thank you goes to all the farmers who generously donated calves, as well as to those who purchased them.
“Without their support, we would not have been able to raise such a significant and substantial amount. Their generosity has played a pivotal role in making the event a success and we are truly thankful for their involvement.”

Special education
Currently, the OSSE school operates out of a temporary building, which lacks many of the basic resources and facilities that students need for a complete education.
This has resulted in the school travelling outside for extracurricular activities, such as swimming and horse riding which can be costly, particularly as the school does not have its own transport.
“With the funds raised, Offaly School of Special Education is poised to enhance the educational experience of its students and ensure they have access to the necessary equipment and opportunities to thrive,” added the spokesperson.
“Nick and Katie Kearney, whose tireless efforts were instrumental in the success of the event, also deserve special mention for their dedication to the school and community.
“We also wish to extend our thanks to GVM Tullamore and Gordan Cobb, Lakeland Daries, Tullamore Agri Supplies Limited, Slieve Bloom Veterinary, JGrennan, Tirlán, Liffey Mills, Midland Veterinary, Quinns.”
