According to a report from the Belgian food safety authority quoted by the national broadcaster RTBF, beef products from the Veviba factory in Bastogne that had its licence revoked last week were shipped to Hong Kong, Ivory Coast and Kosovo. This follows recalls of products at supermarkets and butchers' shops within Belgium last week.
Extracts from the report describe fraud at the plant as "unacceptable". It confirms that cuts made to bleed the animals posed a risk to consumers through potential contamination by listeria and E coli. Initial investigations had also shown that dates had been changed on meat labels.
Belgian Agriculture Minister Denis Ducarme has announced a review of the country's food safety agency.
