It was all action at the World Equestrian Games and also at home. Irish national riders travelled to Cavan Equestrian to contest their Autumn Championships.

The 1.30m speed class on Friday went to Rose Biedron and All Gold Des Isles. Biedron jumped clear in 51.69 seconds. Lee Carey and Furisto Cruise claimed second in 52.52. Little divided the next placing, as Ger Clarke and Fabio M crossed the line in a time of 52.81 for third.

Daryl Walker dominated the Snaffles Bar Indoor Derby on Friday night finishing first and second. He won with Kiss N Fly when clear in 33.80. A clear with his second mount, CCS Ottomatic, in 33.97 saw him secure second, ahead of John Floody and Ballyknock Diamond, who was fastest of the four faulters in 31.37.

Saturday’s 1.30m final went to Ciaran Nallon and Bally Fair. This partnership have featured strongly on the young rider circuit, with a runner-up place in the 1.30m championship in the Dublin Horse Show.

Angela Percy was hot on his heels, she crossed the line with Active Cruise (Cruising x Active) almost one second behind Nallon for second. Damien Griffin and Pembrook Millenia put in a gallant attempt to see them finish third.

Top spec autumn Grand Prix

Jessica Burke won the second round of the 1.35m Top Spec Autumn Grand Prix. She lodged the winning round with Norway Venture in 30.81. The series boasted a startlist of 99 combinations and 10 of those delivered clears to share the €2,000 prize fund.

Owned by Yvonne Meaney, the 13-year-old gelding is by Aldatus Z and out of the Coevers Diamond Boy-sired dam Norway Maid. Among the pairing’s good results of late was second in the Grand Prix in Galway in August. The combination has also been consistently placed in the 1.35m Sven Hadley Transport Connaught Grand Prix throughout the season.

Simon Scott and Ploverfield took the runner-up place. Emily Turkington and Jay Gatsby finished third. Part of the Irish squad in Lanaken, Eddie Moloney once again demonstrated good form, he slotted into fourth place with Cruicerath Flexianna.

Cora Sharkey and Pinegrove Aro came fifth. Completing the top six line-up were Philip Gaw and Ardnacashel Coovella. This is the second impressive placing for this combination having finished third in the opening round at the Meadows the week before.

Luke Garrigan and MJS La Scala clinched the 1.40m Top Spec Autumn Grand Prix on Sunday. This is the second Grand Prix win for MHS Scala, having won in Jag Equestrian earlier in the year. Neal Fearon and Goodluck VDL jumped clear in a slightly slower time to finish second.

Longford rider Robert Harrison, riding Landlystes Rubina, finished almost two seconds behind for third place. Jamie Garland’s careful approach with Zedlepplin paid dividends, she was the last of the double clears for fifth.

John Floody and Ballyknock Diamond posted the fastest round of the class, but four faults meant that they had to contend with sixth place.

Six and seven-year-old Hankook final

Richard Kerins claimed the six and seven-year-old Hankook final. He delivered the winning round aboard Small Change in 35.66. Owned and bred by Korena Byrne, the seven-year-old gelding is by Pacino and and out of the Poltarf sired dam Miss Josie Jump. Kerins also competed on the gelding’s half-sister, Rosa Belle, who was also bred by Byrne. This is the second good result for this pairing at Cavan of late, having finished third in the 1.35m Grand Prix in July.

Winner of the qualifier on Friday, Derek McConnell partnered Sorcha Hennessy’s six-year-old Mermus R-sired Dothraki Warlord to second. The pair jumped clear in 36.91. Bred by Patrick Kearns from Co Laois, the gelding had a series of good results in the ISH Showjumping series, as well as a good performance at the Dublin Horse Show.

Gerard Clarke and the Clare and Patrick Sutton owned-Hollystown Miss Lupin, a seven-year-old (Lux Z x Thornfield Lupin), also kept the poles in place albeit in a slower time of 40.79 for third.

The 1.25 All Ireland speed championship went to Gerard Clarke on Saturday. Riding Fabio M, Clarke left nothing to spare as he galloped home in 47.56 seconds. His closest rival was Lee Carey and Furisto Cruise, in 49.12, ahead of Jake Hunter and Ogara in 49.17.
