Dr Anne Marie Butler has become the new president of the Agricultural Science Association (ASA), taking over from Dairygold’s head of commercial Seamus O’Mahony.
As senior agricultural manager with Ulster Bank, Butler's key focus is on business development across Ireland. From a tillage farm in Kilkenny, she holds a degree and PhD in agriculture from UCD.
Butler previously lectured in the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science before moving into the banking industry.
Agenda
In her role as ASA president, Butler has identified the need to champion science in order to meet the challenges and embrace opportunities within the industry.
“The ASA has science at its core. It is the bedrock upon which all of our members have developed their careers and is fundamental in enabling our industry to meet the challenges presented by climate change."
The new president has also initiated a strategic review of the ASA in order to ensure that the organisation delivers relevant supports and benefits to its members.
