Ireland among the biggest fallers in milk price for July
The latest data from Europe’s Milk Market Observatory shows that milk price declines in Ireland for the month of July were among the worst across the EU
The average farmgate milk price paid to producers across the 28 EU member states fell by 0.9% for the month of July, according to the latest data from the European Milk Market Observatory (MMO). Figures from the MMO show an average price of 30.6c/litre (€29.70/100kg) of milk was paid to EU farmers for the month of July – down slightly from the June price of 30.9c/l (€29.96/100kg).
This leaves the average EU milk price for July 20% lower than the same month last year and 12% lower than the average of the last five years. The MMO has estimated a further price decline for milk prices to 30.2c/l (€29.30/100kg) for August.
By individual member states, the largest month-on-month declines in milk prices were recorded in the Baltic countries, Croatia, Ireland and Denmark.

The average milk price in Ireland fell by 3.8% in July to 27.9c/l compared with the average milk price for June. Most Irish milk processors except Carbery decided to cut their milk price during July, with the average price dropping by more than 1c/l compared with June.
The July cut in milk prices announced by processors reflects the fourth round of summer milk price cuts as a result of the global supply and demand imbalance.
