Launched at a May field event close to the brand’s main tractor factory in Lauingen, southern Germany, the two new ranges complement the existing 5C and 5 TTV lines. Both are built around new FARMotion engines, a Stage 4a evolution of the Same engines built at SDF’s Italian engine facility.
The 5G series is essentially a development of the Agrofarm HD range. It comprises 11 models from 75-109hp, available in three versions, LD (three models), MD (five models) and HD (three models), which vary in spec.
The tractors follow the trend for extracting more power from fewer cylinders by using the latest turbocharger and intercooler technology, with as much as 97hp produced by the three-pot engine in the 5100G – the range-topper is the four-cylinder 5115.4. All G models feature 2,000 bar pressure Bosch common rail fuel injection with electronic control, and use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) to limit nitrous oxide and particulate emissions as demanded by Stage 4i emissions regulations.
Highest specification
The highest-specification HD models in the 5G line, which all use four-cylinder, 2.8-litre engines, benefit from mechanical or powershift transmission options. Speed options range from 8F/8R right up to 60F/60R.
The Stop&Go clutch/brake system is standard. Rear hitch capacity is 3,600kg, rising to 4,800kg on the largest model, while PTO options comprise 540/540 eco or 540/540 eco/1,000/1,000 eco, and hydraulic flow capacity from the open-centre system is 55 or 60 litres/min.
Like their bigger brothers in the existing 5, 6 and 7 series, the 5G tractors make use of a Giugiaro-designed cabin, a four-pillar unit which incorporates a number of control elements carried down from the larger machines in the Deutz-Fahr range.
The 5D tractors are an evolution of the Agroplus family, replacing the top end models in the Agroplus and Agroplus Ecoline range, and come in four variants from 75 to 102hp. They again use the Same-sourced FARMotion engine in three- and four-cylinder formats, complying with Stage 4i emissions legislation primarily via use of a DOC and external exhaust gas recirculation.
There are two 75hp three-cylinder models, in Ecoline base-spec and standard versions, and four 88hp tractors, a three-cylinder Ecoline, three-cylinder standard, four-cylinder standard and four-cylinder Ecoline, plus a 102hp four-cylinder tractor with a single specification level. All 88hp models can be specified with two-wheel drive if required.
Transmissions are 10F/10R or 30F/15R mechanical units, with either mechanical or hydraulic power shuttle, while a three-speed powershift is optional. SDF’s Stop&Go clutch system, which disengages drive when the brake pedals are depressed, is a standard feature on non-Ecoline models. Lift capacity at the rear is 2,650kg or 3,000kg, depending on model, with a 3,600kg option, while the PTO package is 540/540 eco rpm, with 1,000rpm and ground speed options.
An open-centre hydraulic system provides up to 54 l/min of flow, depending on model. For those for whom access to low buildings is important, every 5D model is less than 2.5m high.
