Austrian company Einbock has developed a new rotary weeding machine to offer chemical free weeding techniques for cereal crops grown in a no-till tillage system.
The new Einbock Rotarystar weeder aims to deal with weeding problems in no-till established crops or crops where there is a high level of previous crop residue.

The new rotary machinery called the Rotarystar uses a finger wheel type system to disturb weeds in a cereal crop.
The company has been manufacturing weeders for many years but their tined versions were having problems in no-till crops where there is some residue from straw. This residue tends to build up in front of the tined weeders and the company has developed this rotary unit to deal with the problem.
The machine is designed for use at speeds between 12 and 25km/hour. It operates at a working width of 6 metres based on four 1.5 metre wide units each of which is independently suspended to allow the machine to follow the ground evenly. There is a 9.5cm (3½ in) spacing between each of the Rotarystar rings to give a good ground covering potential.

The Einbock machines are imported into Ireland by PJ Callan Ltd, Ardee, Co Louth. As the Rotarystar is a new machine in the range and was just launched in February at the SIMA Show in Paris, there are no prices for the machine on the Irish market just yet.
