Four wellbeing and health talks aimed at farmers are being rolled out by “Make a Moove”, an initiative run in conjunction with Healthy Ireland and north Tipperary Macra na Feirme.
The meetings are free to attend and follow on from the success of the first meeting in January, which had over 100 people in attendance.
We hope to write a report which outlines the challenges facing farmers
Jonathan Dwyer and John Keane, two north Tipperary Macra na Feirme members, say they hope the meetings serve as a support tool for farmers to talk openly about issues they could be having.
“The meetings will follow a similar programme to the first one,” John Keane told the Irish Farmers Journal.
“We’ll have two speakers, a break for tea and then round-table discussions on issues affecting farmers.
“The idea is to identify issues and try to find solutions to problems. So far, farmers have highlighted that rural isolation and places to gather socially outside of a pub environment are issues.
“Ultimately, we hope to write a report which outlines the challenges facing farmers in rural Ireland provide some potential solutions.”
Venues and locations for meetings are as follows:
