Beef and forward heifers sold in the region of €720 over the kg for the plainer aged types, while younger well fleshed Charolais and Limousin types sold up to €1,120 with the weight. The majority sold from €850 to €1000 with the kg. One Belgian Blue heifer (715kg) made €1740. One Charolais heifer (685kg) made €1750, while another charolais heifer (775kg) made €1,900.

Forward store heifers

Forward store heifers sold in the region of €650 for aged types and up to €1050 with the kg for in-spec continental types. A Charolais heifer (595kg) sold for €1520, while nine Limousin heifers (566kg) made €1390. Four Charolais heifers (509kg) made €1,420.

Store heifers

There was exceptional farmer trade for store heifers with prices pushing up to €3 per kg or from €300 to €800 with the kg. Three Limousin heifers weighing 310kg made €930. Two Limousin heifers weighing 290kg made €860, while two at 307kg made €1070. Three Limousin heifers weighing 400kg made €1060, while one Belgian Blue heifer weighing 455kg made €1,210.

Cull cows

Sold from €300 with the kg for lighter Friesian types up to €900. One Charolais cow (930kg) made €1,810, while one Limousin cow weighing 840kg made €1540. One Limousin cow (855kg) made €1,710. One Friesian cow weighing 785kg made €1,160.

Winners

Class 1 - Best factory type cow

Noel Kelly from Williamstown, Rathvilly, Co Carlow won first place for his 930kg cow which made €1,810.

Class 2 - Best two or more fat heifers

Peter Hynes of Liselican, Borris, Co Carlow won first place for his heifer weighing 703kg which sold for €1,570.

Class 3 - Best fat heifer

Niall Jackson of Valhalla, Prumplestown, Co. Carlow won first place for his fat heifer which weighed 715kg and sold for €1,740.

Class 4 - Best two or more store heifers

In first place was Sean Buggy of Ballyrider, Stradbally, Co Laois. the animals weighed 549kg and sold for €1,380.

Class 5 - Best store heifer

Andrew Jacob of Clonmullen, Bunclody, Co. Wexford won first place for his best store heifer which weighed 600kg and sold for €1400.

Class 6 - Best weanling heifer

Patrick Hogan of Rathnashannagh, Grangeford, Bennekerry, Carlow came first for his weanling heifer. The heifer sold for €935 and weighed 375kg.
