SsangYong has a host of new upgrades throughout the entire range for Ploughing 2016 while Mitsubishi will unveil a new range of bonus trade-in offers to tempt farmers into their latest generation 4x4s.

More Rodius power

The full range of Korean-built SUVs has been upgraded with cleaner engines and better features for 2017 and are worth a view.

To start with, the big SsangYong Rodius people carrier was upgraded for 2016 with a new 2.2-litre Euro 6 diesel engine. The six-speed gearbox has also been improved, with an upgrade to the seven-speed automatic version for smooth driving performance.

The new Rodius gets a 14.8% engine power boost to 178bhp, while the engine torque jumps to 400Nm, an 11% improvement compared with the old model. The CO2 rating has dropped accordingly to 189g/km, bringing the annual road tax down to a more affordable €750.

The new Rodius also comes with a newly developed 7in mirroring audio system, which can be connected to smartphones. Via a USB port, users can stream content from their external audio devices.

Korando Sport’s new engine power

SsangYong has fitted the new generation Korando Sports with the latest e-XDi 2.0 litre diesel engine, which claims to enhance mid- and low-speed torque for all driving conditions. This engine is rated at 155bhp with a maximum torque figure of 360Nm. The 2.0-litre diesel Korando Sports with 4x4 and manual transmission delivers CO2 emissions of 199g/km (7.5 L/100km).

The front of the Korando Sports features a mesh-type hexagonal grill with black bezel headlamps nestled in a trapezoid bumper. A choice of 16in or 18in alloy wheel designs is also offered in the new model.

The 2.04 square-metre rear load area features a flat floor to help ensure easy loading. There is now a spring-assisted, easy-lift tailgate to minimise effort.

Korando upgrades for economy

The standard Korando now comes with a new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers 178bhp and 400Nm of torque to give better towing ability, now at 2t. This engine change brings the CO2 emission level down to 139g/km (on the two-wheel-drive, manual transmission model). Fuel consumption is reduced to 18.9km/l (5.3 l/100km).

The new Korando comes with the same audio system as the Rodius. It can also be linked to the rear-view camera for safe reversing.

Rexton upgrades

The fourth SsangYong 4x4 to get a 2016 upgrade is the Rexton. The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine is again under the bonnet of the new generation Rexton to give more power. The engine has been fitted with new filter systems to make it Euro 6 compliant. The CO2 emission level is reduced to 5% compared with the previous model.

The Rexton has a towing capacity of 2,600kg with a braked trailer and comes with part-time four-wheel-drive, with shift on the fly and a low-range gear box as standard. There is a host of new driver-friendly features as standard on the new generation models.

All SsangYong commercial vehicles come with a five-year/150,000km warranty and five-year roadside assistance, while passenger models come with five-year unlimited mileage warranty and five-year roadside assistance.

Tivoli’s wider options

On the SUV front, the big news from SsangYong comes in the shape of the Tivoli XLV, which is the larger-capacity version of the Tivoli. Powered by a new 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine, the new XLV is based on the Tivoli platform with extended load space up to 720 litres.

This new SUV is designed to fit five tall adults in comfort. Cruise control, air conditioning, keyless entry, central locking, fog lamps and alloy wheels all come as standard with the Tivoli models, with prices starting from €21,495.

The Tivoli models come with the smart steer system, giving a choice of three different steering modes – normal, sport, and comfort. They feature multi-function electronic stability programme, active roll-over protection, brake assist, hill start assist and emergency stop signal, tyre pressure monitoring system and a warning reminder for seat belts on all five seating positions.

The larger Tivoli XLV is also equipped with parking sensors (rear on the ES model, front and rear on the EL model), one-touch triple indicator direction signalling, one-touch automatic windscreen wash/wipe, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlight activation, and an electrochromic interior rear view mirror.
