In its fourth consecutive year, the Aldi all-Ireland Angus bull calf championships is set to be its biggest yet. With a prize fund of €17,500 over two classes, it stands as one of the biggest prize funds not only in Ireland but in Europe.

Heavily sponsored by Aldi, ABP and the Irish Angus Cattle Society, the owner of the top bull in each section walks away with a cheque for €2,000. The final for the heavily sponsored championships takes place on 27 August at Iverk Show in Piltown.

However, to secure a place in the final and be in with a chance of taking home the money, entrants must first qualify at regional shows throughout the country.

Qualifying shows

In total, six qualifying shows are taking place, with five bulls from each section going forward to the final. Tullamore marks the next step on the qualifying route before Roscommon and Iverk bring them to a close.

Altogether, 30 bulls in the September to December class and 30 bulls from the January to April class will be paraded in front of an unannounced judge in Iverk on the last Saturday of August. If you have a bull you think good enough to claim some of this prize fund, then entries to Roscommon and Iverk are still open and can be made by contacting the relevant show secretary.
