TE Potterton held a successful auction of a 78ac farm located at Clondoogan, Co Meath consisting of a number of lots last week.

Three bidders duked it out for the residence on 13ac, which was lot 1. It opened at €250,000 and in a few minutes was knocked down to a Dublin-based buyer with business and equestrian interests for €350,000.

The cutstone coachouse on 1.3ac opened at €60,000 and sold for €110,000 to an Irish couple based in London. The 2.7ac field fronting on to the Summerhill to Rathmolyon road opened at €30,000 and sold for €80,000 to a local family.

Thomas Potterton said there were four bidders for the 22.5ac block of land which opened at €180,000. It went up in bids of €10,000 and was bought, at €325,000 by “a lady from Dublin”. That price equates to just under €14,500 per acre.

The 10ac field accessed by a right of way, with no road frontage, opened at €50,000, and was sold for €115,000.

Local interest

A local Co Meath farmer opened the bidding for the 28ac block of land located on a cul de sac, at €150,000. However, it was a local family with business interests that ended up getting it, paying €182,000.

“The total was €1,162,000, which was just €15,000 per acre," Potterton told Irish Country Living. "I looked for a higher offer than that for the entirety – but I didn’t get one bid. I had reckoned all along it would go in lots."

“The auction was to be in our offices but we moved it to the Trim Castle Hotel to accommodate 50 people. We offered everyone masks and sanitiser. I have to say there was a good buzz in the room.”
