Last week, the Irish Farmers Journal revealed a raft of proposals from the NPWS for schemes on Natura 2000 lands.
Genuine and open consultation with farmers will be needed if these plans are to work, the IFA said, adding that there cannot be a situation where restrictions are imposed on farmers without their co-operation.

IFA rural development chair Michael Biggins said funding for farmers in marginal areas is welcome, but not if it comes with a myriad of terms and conditions.
“Each area has its own unique circumstances that have to be accommodated. We will be making a detailed submission that will give the farmer perspective on these proposals,” he said.
