It was announced last week that GAIN Equine Nutrition has extended its support at the newly transformed Curragh Racecourse by continuing to sponsor the GAIN Railway Stakes for 2019.
The Group 2 contest for two-year-olds takes place on Saturday 29 June, as one of the feature races on Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day. There has also been an increase in the total prize fund for the race this year, which has been welcomed by trainers.
Speaking after the announcement Joanne Hurley, Irish country manager, GAIN Equine Nutrition, commented:“We have a long standing relationship with the Curragh Racecourse and we are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the prestigious Group 2 GAIN Railway Stakes.
“We believe that this partnership reinforces our commitment to both the racing and bloodstock industries; supporting our customers and the industry at large. We look forward to the day in the new Curragh facilities where we hope to enjoy a fantastic day’s racing from the new world-class stand.
“We wish all connections the very best of luck on the day”.
First run in 1851, the race has consistently been one of the top races of the season for some of Europe’s best juveniles and has been won in recent times by subsequent Group 1 winners including Mastercraftsman, Sudirman, George Washington, Holy Roman Emperor and Rock of Gibraltar. The Aidan O’Brien-trained Van Beethoven landed the race in 2018 under Ryan Moore.
Evan Arkwright, racing manager, the Curragh Racecourse said: “The Curragh has enjoyed a very positive association with GAIN Equine Nutrition since 2012 and their increased commitment this year to one of the most historic races in the Irish racing calendar has ensured we are able to offer record prize money this year. Entries for the race are particularly strong and feature leading two year olds Monarch of Egypt, Arizona, Pistoletto, Sunday Sovereign, Ickworth and Siskin.
