German discounter Lidl has become the seventh largest supermarket in the UK, according to the latest market share figures released by Kantar Worldpanel. Lidl now commands a 5.2% share of the UK’s £182bn grocery market, moving ahead of Waitrose for the first time.The big four’s – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrison’s –combined share of the market has fallen below 70% of the UK market as discounters Aldi and Lidl, along with new competition from online retailer Ocado, win new customers.
