Up to now, the Metris was only available with a capacity of 4,100 litres.
The new range comes with the option of 18 to 36 metre wide aluminium booms to offer new options for farmers who want to use low volume spraying techniques with larger booms, which Kuhn claims are lightweight due to their aluminium structure.
The 3,200-litre Metris trailed sprayer can be configured with or without axle suspension and with and without covering hoods.
This allows sprayer buyers to tailor the machine to suit the application and down to an affordable price.
Continuous circulation
The smaller capacity sprayer comes with a continuous circulation system, a section shut-off option using a GPS controller and a fully automated machine rinsing system that is operated from the tractor cab.
For its mounted Altis sprayer range, Kuhn has a new Altis 2002 model with a 2,000 litre tank capacity.
This sprayer is a little unusual in design terms and is fitted with an L-shaped chassis and the Optilift system, which makes it a compact and light machine on the tractor linkage. Kuhn claims that this allows it to be fitted to a similar-sized tractor that would carry a 1,600 or 1,800 litre capacity sprayer.
For the new generation Altis models, the valve operating panel has been fully reviewed and offers three trim levels. The Manuset system provides a hand wheel with three valves, while on the Diluset system, the suction valve is powered so that the user can fill and rinse the tank without leaving the cab. With the e-Set system, all of the sprayer valves are powered. The user sets up the control box and the sprayer completes the work itself.
In design terms, the Altis 2002 has a completed side covering that protects the valve panel and the induction unit, and on the other side, fully encloses the 230 litre rinsing tank.
This sprayer is fitted with the two-arm aluminium booms RHPM and RHPA, with a working width of up to 28m as well as the option of new three-arm diagonal booms MEA3 with working widths of 20, 21 and 24m. They all benefit from transport suspension which Kuhn claims gives increased service life and allows higher road speeds. Cork Farm Machinery has models from the enhanced Kuhn sprayer range in stock and will be demonstrating the machines in the coming weeks.
John Deere launches new R952i sprayer
John Deere has added the new 5,200-litre capacity R952i sprayer to its trailed range, to meet the demand for a high-capacity machine in this tank size. Like its bigger stablemate, the 6,200-litre R962i model launched in 2011, the R952i features a low-profile, compact design and a low centre of gravity, to provide optimum stability under all spraying conditions.
This machine is equipped as standard with a number of features designed to make spraying easier, more accurate, more efficient and more profitable. A wide choice of steel spray booms from 24 to 40m is available, fitted with BoomGuard anti-yaw suspension.
The optional BoomTrac system claims to provide boom stability during spraying, by measuring the actual boom height 50 times a second and comparing this with the target height. When a difference occurs, the BoomTrac system is designed to automatically adjust the spray boom height and boom tilt angle to ensure the optimum boom position, whether spraying in the field or turning at the headland.
John Deere claims that sprayer operators using BoomTrac have reported noticing more effective control of blackgrass during the 2012 spraying season, due to the more consistent application of herbicides that can be achieved using this fast, automatic boom height control system.
Other key features of the new R952i trailed sprayer include the SolutionCommand automatic solution management system with AutoDilute.
This system is designed to let the operator accurately fill, agitate, spray and multi-cycle rinse the sprayer, and dispose of residues, at the push of a button on the tractor’s GreenStar display.
John Deere also offers the optional i-Solutions system which also includes Spray-to-Map, a prescription mapping tool that claims to allow the operator to spray variable rates of fertilizer or crop protection chemicals, and Sectional Control automatic boom section control.
This system is claimed to minimise overlaps and misses and avoid wasting valuable inputs.
