Revamped Major disc mower
Major Equipment has launched a new ProMow disc mower that it claims can be easily mounted to the tractor by a single operator. This new machine uses a six disc Comer cutting bar. The Major ProMow Disc Mower is available in a working width of 2.4m (8’). It will be joined by a 2.7m (9ft) and 3.1m (10ft) mower this summer.
The blades are manufactured from 4mm hardened steel. Major claims that the cutting bar is fully serviceable from the top with easy access for routine maintenance.
The Major ProMow Disc Mower is fitted with a parallel linkage which claims to give the bed a flat lift when mowing on headlands or in awkward field contours. The belt drive is fitted with a heavy duty spring-loaded pulley to give consistent tension. The grass board allows the swath to be aligned and separated from uncut material.
The new Major ProMow Disc Mower folds neatly and safely into a 1.8m transport width. It can be equipped with a heavy duty PTO shaft with over-run protection. Easyfit topping skids are supplied as standard. The list price of the ProMow is €5,800 incl. VAT for the 2.4m wide mower. Major can be contacted at 094-9630572.
SlurryKat tankers in wildfire rescue
Over 400 residents were evacuated from their homes after recent wildfires spread across the island of Freya in Norway.
While a crew of 150 from Norwegian emergency services worked around the clock to gain control of the flames, some local farmers on the island came to their aid by transporting water with their SlurryKat tankers.
SlurryKat is one of Northern Ireland’s manufacturers of slurry-handling equipment and its equipment is currently available in Norway as well as 20 other countries worldwide.
Kuhn plans deal with Montana

Montana also offers a range of three-point mounted, trailed and mist-blower self-propelled sprayers. Montana is entering the new self-propelled fertilizer spreader market.
Ireland a crucial market for Britain
Ireland was the fourth most important destination for exports of British farm machinery in 2013, according to the latest report from the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA). Ireland accounted for almost 9% of the value of the farm machinery exports from Britain at £119m (€143m).
Much of this figure is due to tractor exports from British-based tractor distributors, while the tractors are not in fact produced in Britain. Ireland recorded a 4% growth compared with 2012 and was fourth behind USA, France and Germany.
Indian tractor fuel innovation
Indian tractor maker Mahindra & Mahindra, which claims to make the most tractors in the world, has adopted new fuel injection systems with the launch of a new generation of CRDe tractors. These tractors use a common-rail fuel system similar to what is fitted to many European built tractors.
The new model called the Arjun Ultra 605 uses an electronically controlled diesel fuel injection system. Mahindra claims this technology is more eco-friendly because of lower emission ratings.

The machine has a minimum power requirement of just 60hp. At the front is a row of spring-loaded levelling paddles, then a three-row grass-tine harrow followed by a press roller.
