IFA president Eddie Downey has said the EU and EIB initiative that rural development funding could be used as a mechanism to provide lower-cost bank loans could benefit Irish farmers but more clarity is needed and measures cannot be introduced at the expense of existing rural development programmes

RDP passed
At a meeting in Brussels last week, IFA received confirmation from the EU that Ireland’s RDP has been passed technically. Rural Development Committee chairman Flor McCarthy said it is now up to Minister Coveney to ensure schemes are implemented without any further delay.
